She knew his adoptive parents when they adopted him. There is no reason for her to go to the media to let him know she would like to meet him other than to get her face in the news and to put pressure on him. If all she wanted was to meet him there are other ways she could have gone about it.

You make good points but it’s really unimportant whether or not we respect and admire this young man. the duper dooper bowl is coming up and that means among other things that the standard of bottom scraping “reporting” for the next year is set this week. This story is but one of the entries, and with another week to go there will be more like it.

The media started this story. This is NONE of our business.

There’s so much we don’t know about how this all came about. I would suggest that we all give her the benefit of the doubt. He not only has the opportunity to see where he came from and learn more of his own background, but he’s got two half-siblings as well.
How much more would everyone respect and admire this young man if he were to meet with them, maybe even begin a friendship with all of them, but make sure that the media and everyone else understands that his parents (The Kaepernicks) are his family. I would have nothing but respect for a guy that would do this.
Let him deal with this how he will deal with it, and respect whatever decision he makes. We don’t know what the circumstances are and what the motivations are (really, Kaepernick doesn’t make millions btw (that’ll come with his next contract)).

At 19 she made some extremely difficult decisions which seem to be vindicated both by Colin’s and her own lives thereafter. I have two adopted sisters who were very grateful for being given up for adoption. I read no selfishness or greed into her statements. She can have her due—she carried him for 9 months, gave him life, and contributed half his genes. Beyond that, a little infant nurture, and the decision to offer him for adoption, she has at least earned the right to express her feelings. Facing the widespread cynicism and possible rejection from Colin cannot be easy for her either.

This woman needs to back off and stop with the media parade. If and when he decides he wants to meet her I am sure he will let her know. Until then she needs to just lay low and be one the tens of thouands of faces in the crowd cheering for him. Her repeated media interviews are designed to do only one thing, put pressure on him to agree to a meeting and that is not right for her to do. In addition, it may backfire and cause him to decide he never wants anything to do with her. I seriously question this womans motives with the repeated public statements and media interviews that only started after he became famous. I think the woman is just looking to get a slice of the pie, whether she will admit to herself and everyone else or not. If she truly is interested in what is best for her biological son and has no other motives, she needs to fade into the background and allow him to to decide when and if to meet on his own terms without being pressured.

That might be a relevant comment if Colin was still a minor, in the care of his adopted parents. But Colin is an adult now. He “belongs” to any family that he chooses.
I can only think that it gives Colin some happiness to know that he has another person that cares for him.

While her timing is awful, you have to imagine the media tracked her down and is pestering her. I can see that side. I can also see her wanting to be on some ESPN OTL or 30 for 30 story about Colin. Goes both ways.
