Don’t you think maybe you should go have a seat on the bench? No one should make a statement demeaning anyone’s race, sex, creed or religion. This is especially true as a member of the media. You have a bigger audience. Your statement that asked whether or not Boston was a Catholic school was definitely meant as a shot to the Catholic Church and will be taken as a personal affront by many of its members. Catholics are not abusers. That is not the belief of the Church or of its See of faithfuls. Priests have abused children and they acted on the own accord and sinned gravely. Those who helped to cover it up also sinned gravely. To make any statement that makes any assumptions that the Church or its members believe in abuse is greatly irresponsible and downright sinful.

Being Catholic or attending a Catholic school has nothing to do with this story. It’s amazing what the media gets away with. It puts a spotlight on the Catholic Church and the reported abuses there bit doesn’t even talk about other religions. The media has now made it assumed that if you’re Catholic, you’re an abuser, you’ve been abused or you know someone who’s been abused. What is your religion? I ask because everyone who believes in what you believe in must also be ignorant and childish. Some priests have abused children. We all know that. That doesn’t change what it means to be Catholic. Does abuse in the Baptist church or the Lutheran church change the actual faith and ideals of these churches? Can you tell me that a rabbi has never abused a child? I guess priests are the only ones who have abused.

So censoring people who make fun of child rapists and institutions that foster child rape will help the feelings of victims?

I know – if we sweep it all under a rug, and never, ever speak of child rape, that will make the victims feel sooooo much better.

oh look someone addressed something that happened with humor and someone got butthurt. penn state was in the wrong for letting that creep stay on the campus for so long, now they have to deal with the consequences, and that is a tarnished reputation of hiring kid touchers. doesn’t matter who says it or when they say it, it happened and we aren’t gonna let you forget.

Yes it was tasteless, but in my opinion this canvassing of Twitter and Facebook by schools and employers is simply wrong and is getting way out of hand. Her First Amendment rights weren’t violated, but what someone says on their own time really shouldn’t be an issue unless it explicitly advocates committing a felony. That said, it certainly wasn’t wise for her to tweet those things.

Should “tweets” be called “twits”, anyway?

I’m not a saint, so from time to time a thought crosses my mind that is terrible and tasteless. I just share them with friends and not with everybody in the twittersphere. I could be wrong but I think her punishment is a little too stiff. She already made a bit of a jerk of herself and apologized and everything. I didn’t know who Stephanie McCaffrey was till this morning and now I think she’s kind of a jerk.
