Earlier today we brought you news of Takeru Kobayashi’s record-breaking hot dog eating performance at the New York State Fair … 110 dogs in 10 minutes. This broke Joey Chestnut’s mark of 68 wieners, set at the Famous Nathan’s Fourth of July Hot Dog Eating Contest this year. And it didn’t sit well with Chestnut, who claimed on Twitter that Kobyashi’s feat is unofficial, and furthermore he ate “crap dogs.”

It all unfolded on Twitter on Monday, as the president of the Hofman Sausage company, Frank Zaccanelli, got into a heated exchange with Chestnut on Twitter. Hofman hosted the Kobayashi event, and in fact Kobayashi is an investment partner in the company.

Of course this could all be a staged argument for publicity-grabbing purposes … who knows? Hey, it worked for Andy Kaufman and Jerry Lawler.

Chestnut needs to nut up and face Kobayashi. Quit hiding behind Twatter and put your gut where your mouth is.

Um, so the guy who comes to Coney Island, dethrones Kobayashi, sends him running like a pansy, needs to now come and “nut up”?

    Makes sense.

He didn’t run like a pansy. Kobayashi just felt he could earn more money by not being in an exclusive contract. The 4th of July contest doesn’t let you compete unless you sign an exclusive contract – which means you can’t compete elsewhere. Kobayashi wants to compete in other events. He’s beaten Chestnut a few times, including doing it at the exact same time as Chestnut in 2011, but just on top of a bar in manhattan. He got 69. 110 now is crazy though.

Only problem is the 69 he put up during the same contest (at another location) was a bogus number. I’m sure the 110 is as well. I mean really, you added 41 to your total in a 10 minute span and we are supposed to think it’s legit?
