Wait, shouldn’t Hud Mellencamp be trying out with Houston or Washington State? John Blue Devil Mellencamp just doesn’t have the same ring to it. Anyway, we’re rooting for his son, Hud, to make the Duke football team when he walks on in the summer, but at 5-foot-11 the former Indiana Golden Gloves boxing champ is going to have a tough go of it. Especially since Mellencamp, who was home schooled, never played high school football.

Mellencamp is going to play defensive back for the Blue Devils when he arrives on campus in Durham later this summer.

As a 14-year-old in 2009, Mellencamp won a 132-pound division title in the Golden Gloves while boxing for the Indy Police Athletic League.

Fun facts: John Mellencamp has another son, named Speck, by his third marriage. And a daughter, Justice, from his second marriage.
