Barry Sanders, years in the NFL: 10. Years married to TV anchor Lauren Campbell-Sanders: 11. According to the Oakland Press, the former Detroit Lions running back filed for divorce Friday in Oakland County, Michigan.
Sanders, 43, said in the filing that there has been a breakdown in the marital relationship, and there remains no reasonable likelihood that the marriage can be preserved. Sanders is seeking that the parties be awarded joint custody of their children, ages 4, 8 and 10.
“Our client has authorized us to make no comments,” Sanders’ attorney, Lisa Neilson, said in a voicemail message to The Oakland Press.
Sanders said in the filing that he intends to pay child support. He wants to see his wife continue to maintain the children’s health insurance coverage and pay their health care expenses.
Campbell-Sanders is an anchor on WDIV-Channel 4. She could not immediately be reached for comment.
More importantly, as all Cardinal fans know, Sanders’ son from a previous relationship, Barry James Sanders, has committed to Stanford. Sanders, a running back, lives in Oklahoma. He chose Stanford over Alabama, among other schools.
