MLS player Tim Ream cancels honeymoon for EPL call-up … wife not amused

Getty Images Important note: The honeymoon was in Tahiti. So Tim Ream, until recently a defender for Major League Soccer’s New York Red Bulls, got a call during the first day of his honeymoon asking if he wouldn’t mind terribly leaving the island paradise to come to Bolton, England, to play for the English Premier League club. Ream’s response: Hell yes!
Oh, sorry honey.
“I can’t really repeat what she said,” Ream said of his new wife’s reaction. “But her and I have talked, and as long as we’re together in whatever we do I think both of us will be happy. She wants the best for me, and I just want her to be happy.
“If she says tomorrow that she wants something, then I guess I’ll have to give it to her.”
That something may not be in Kobe Bryant ring territory, but it’ll be expensive I’m sure.
Ream fills the roster spot left empty when Gary Cahill went to Chelsea in Europe’s January transfer window.
The transfer fee of about $2.75 million is the highest for an MLS defender and sixth overall, trailing only those for Maurice Edu, Jozy Altidore, Stern John, Tim Howard and Clint Dempsey.
Ream signed a 3½-year contract. Coyle said Arsenal wanted to sign Ream before the current English season.
And so we have a graphic illustration of how far behind the MLS still is to the EPL. MLS guys are canceling tropical paradise honeymoons to rush to Bolton.
