Bubble Soccer is real, and it’s spectacular (video)

They call it Bubble Football in Norway — or Boblefotbal, actually — and I can’t say I’ve enjoyed the game more than I did watching the video following the jump.

And suddenly my brief love affair with regular soccer seems so childish.

Sarpsborg 08 and Fredrikstad take to the pitch with each player encased in a plastic bubble. This is a game where diving is allowed, and should even be encouraged, judging from the amusing results. It was all shown on Norwegian TV, with a pair of radio announcers who were really into the game.

Show of hands from all those who want this in the U.S., and possibly the Olympics? Let’s get it done.

First of all, this needs to be reposted with a Benny Hill soundtrack. Secondly, someone give me the money to buy ten of these so I can get nine other people to join me on the soccer field. Invite the press and in no time at all, “Hello, Rio di Janero and the 2016 Summer Olympics!”
