AP The first wave of Joe Paterno mourners hit the Pasquerilla Spiritual Center on the Penn State campus on Tuesday, where the first of two public viewings were held. No sign of the Westboro Baptist Church protesters, but former Penn State players Franco Harris and LaVarr Arrington were there. Thousands waited in line for hours to get in to the wake, with more expected today. A memorial service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the 16,000-seat Jordan Center, for which all tickets have been claimed.
Meanwhile, a proposed resolution declaring a no-confidence vote in Penn State University’s board of trustees, fueled by the Paterno firing, failed on Tuesday in the university’s faculty Senate.
And The Harrisburg Patriot-News reports that Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett, who ordered all state government flags lowered to half-staff on Monday, will not be attending the Thursday memorial service “at the request of the (Paterno) family.” Ouch.
Right now Paterno is either a Saint or Satan, depending on one’s point of view. We’ll probably need to let all of this cool down for a few months to get a proper perspective on his legacy, which I’ll wager lands somewhere right in the middle of the scale.

This man made a mistake. He still was a great man.
