Tim Tebow is unknown in the land of his birth: Makati City, Philippines

Getty Images For the past couple of months, there were few places that you could hide from hearing about Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow and his late game heroics.
However, a world away in the Philippines there is a location called Makati City and Tim Tebow isn’t known to most people living in the area.
Why does that matter? Tebow was born there when his parents were traveling as Baptist missionaries and when people living in the city were asked about him, they didn’t know who he was:
“No one here has heard of him,” said Makati government official Mila Gonzalez. “Is he a current player? Of course it is exciting for us now you have told us about this, and we will look it up. If someone from our city is successful it is something for us to celebrate. I am sure once people begin to realize he is from Makati they will start to follow him in his sporting endeavors.”
“Basketball is the biggest sport that we follow; we don’t know much about American sports apart from that,” Makati contractor Jerry Araneta said. “I only know of O.J. Simpson, for obvious reasons. Oh, and Brett Favre. There is a poster of him in my favorite bar. But not Tim Tebow, I don’t know him.”

I don’t understand why we are supposed to care. This is just an article because it’s Tebow. He was born in the Philippines due to circumstance…do you think where he grew up, Jacksonville, people don’t know him?
I fully expect a Robert Griffin III unknown in his birthplace of Japan article soon to prove me wrong about it just being because it’s Tebow…but I doubt we’ll see that article anytime.
