Wednesday Inbox: Ex-Penn St. player claims Sandusky watched game from president’s box a week before his arrest

Jan 11, 2012, 4:37 PM EDT

Former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky and his wife Dottie arrives for a preliminary hearing in Bellefonte Reuters

What did the Penn State administration know, and when did they know it? In an interview with ESPN’s Outside the Lines today, former Penn State linebacker Brandon Short said that two sources at the university told him that Jerry Sandusky watched the Illinois-Penn State game from the university president’s Beaver Stadium box just one week before his arrest on charges of child sexual assault.

The explosive revelation came during an interview with ESPN’s “Outside the Lines,” but Short could not say whether former president Graham Spanier invited Sandusky into his box or whether Sandusky walked in uninvited.

Short said members of the Penn State board of trustees were also in the box for the Oct. 29 victory over Illinois. This is especially damaging considering a statement made by Penn State interim president Rodney Erickson to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Erickson told the paper that then-president Graham Spanier briefed the board of trustees about the Sandusky grand jury investigation in May or June of 2011. [From Fox Tampa Bay]

Okay Brandon Short is probably the last person you want to believe about anything related to Penn State right now. He was audibly upset about the Bill O’Brien hiring. He and LaVar Arrington acted like children about the whole ordeal. Short is going to do anything to make Penn State look bad, even if it includes lying. Until we hear this from other, more legitimate, sources, I wouldn’t take too much stock into this yet.

Yah, I’m sure he’s pretending he was in the Box there. PSU has lost the benefit of the doubt to anything.
