Sorry Newt, Mitt, etc. — Tim Tebow says he’s not endorsing anyone for President

Least surprising news item of the week: Tim Tebow said that he’s been contacted by “more than one” of the Presidential candidates for his endorsement. That’s pretty much the Holy Grail of the Presidential race — if one candidate could harness the Four Horses of the Tebowcolypse, he night be swept comfortably into the White House. Hello President Ron Paul! But alas, it is not to be. From the Associated Press:

Sensing the excitement and loving his message, Tebow is also being courted by Republican presidential candidates. The quarterback recently told The Associated Press he’s been asked by more than one of the contenders for his support. He wouldn’t name names, but did say he’d declined the offer.

“I think you have to have so much trust in who you support, just from product endorsements to endorsing a candidate because if that person or company does something (bad), it reflects on you,” said Tebow, who’s a pitchman for Nike, Jockey and FRS energy drink.

Tebow had his fill of politics when his Focus of the Family-sponsored anti-abortion TV ad debuted during the Super Bowl in 2010, causing all manner of wailing and gnashing of teeth. And this season, both Michele Bachmann and Rick Perry have attempted to harness Tebow Magic by comparing themselves to the Broncos QB.

Of course Bachmann is now out of the race and Perry got 1 percent of the vote in New Hampshire, so maybe having Tebow on your side isn’t such a good thing in politics.

By the way, I’m assuming that Tebow himself will never be President … he was born in the Philippines, right? But … Tebow > Birthers?

If nothing else, he is smart for not endorsing any of the candidates. The Focus on the Family ad was one thing (and not nearly as controversial as some initially made it out to be prior to the actual ad), but a very smart decision to not back any of the candidates.

I heard Tebow COULD run for President. He’s said to have a “Certificate of Live Birth” from Hawaii :)

Seriously though, I agree with “michigan…”. He is smart not to endorse anyone, the same way parents would be smart to raise their kids not to idolize any professional athlete. This country would be far better off if more kids viewed their parents as their heroes and role models.

Good for him, he should’t endorse as Tebow sets himself apart from the republicans and democrats – He is his own party

      Tebow is the new party!!

Maybe Tebow should run for President. It sure would be an improvement.

He plays with a diverse group of players in the NFL. He knows he would lose them as teammates and friends.

More like he gets that he is a polarizing figure and doesn’t need it to get any worse.

Smart choice from a smart guy.

Good boy, Timmy, keep your mouth shut on politicking!

I agree, alot of athletes sure didn’t though in the last election, did they?

Actually, being born in the Philippines doesn’t prevent him from running for President, as long as his parents were US Citizens when he was born, then he is a Natural Born Citizen. McCain was born to US Citizens in Panama.

    • Kevin S. - Jan 11, 2012 at 11:07 PM

McCain was born on a US military base, which is considered US soil. It is not sufficient for his parents to be US citizens. That does make him a US citizen, but it does not make him eligible to run for president.

Like Tim Tebow is now a political expert. I consult a palm reader myself!

Tebow is not as dumb as he looks when praying.

Since when is a football player expected to endorse a presidential candidate? http://wp.me/p1se8R-21m

  10. concernedcitizen001 - Jan 11, 2012 at 11:24 PM

Awe damn, now I have to see who TJ Yates or Joe Flacco might endorse. Oh wait, who cares what a football player thinks politically!!!!!!!!!!!!

  11. trbowman - Jan 11, 2012 at 11:58 PM

Yawn, I’d rather hear about who Brady Quinn is endorsing.

  12. trbowman - Jan 12, 2012 at 12:02 AM

Ron Paul don’t care about asking for endorsements.

Far as he’s concerned, Tebow should be asking HIM for an endorsement.

What happened? Didn’t get any response from your first post, so you decided to repost the exact same thing. Pretty lame…

Leave it to Republicans to seek endorsement from someone that everyone hates.
