Reuters Here’s something that may amuse you: Floyd Mayweather is “calling out” Manny Pacquiao to fight him on May 5. Jesus Floyd, we’ve only been trying to set this up for four years. You wouldn’t answer the phone. Mayweather, on Twitter today:

What does Mayweather’s sudden attack of Twitter courage actually mean? Bad Left Hook:
Because this “call out” by Mayweather means absolutely nothing. All it does is allow Mayweather to sign a fight with Robert Guerrero or Canelo Alvarez next week, and when everyone crows about another failed Manny-Floyd negotiation, Mayweather can say “But look! I called Pacquiao out last week!”
The blame seems to be falling on Bob Arum, Pacquiao’s promoter who apparently refuses to negotiate with Team Mayweather. Even Pacquiao has said that the fight being made falls on Arum’s shoulders. If it’s indeed true that Arum is the one holding the fight up and Mayweather and his team have moved elsewhere, the tweets simply give Mayweather “proof” that he wants the fight. Even if he doesn’t. And maybe he does this time, after seeing Pacquiao struggle against Juan Manuel Marquez.
Arum has said he’s in no particular rush to set up the fight, but Pacquiao said earlier today that he’s ready to fight Mayweather.
Mayweather must report to prison on June 1 to begin a 90-day sentence for domestic battery. The date was set back in order to let him honor the May 5 fight date … although as we see above, who he actually fights is anyone’s guess.
