Oregon’s Rose Bowl helmet looks like it fell from outer space

AP On Tuesday we showed you Oregon’s new Rose Bowl uniforms, but we didn’t really get a good look at the helmet design. Here’s a closer look the helmet, as shown at the Rose Bowl press conference on Wednesday. Looks like the Nike Pro Combat elves have been working overtime on this thing: by game time you may be able to watch DVD movies on it.
Actually the helmet was a joint effort between Nike, Hydro Graphics Inc. and Riddell helmets. And judging by these photos, the “liquid metal” finish reflects just about any light, so be prepared for some odd visual effects during the game on Monday. I’ve never seen a quarterback overthrow a receiver because he was blinded by his helmet.
Meanwhile, Wisconsin presented their new helmet … understated by comparison, with a rose imprint within the W. Here’s a closer look:
