Ron Artest’s name change is fun for TV announcers, anyway (video)

We still prefer to call him “The Artist Formerly Known as Ron Artest”, but that doesn’t sound very catchy on television. So on Tuesday, TNT’s Kevin Harlan showed us a reason that his new name, Metta World Peace, is kind of cool. It’s fun to scream on TV.  It only works, though, if World Peace takes a long drive from the perimeter and dunks. On quick, slam-bam plays, you can’t get all the vowels in there.

It’s only a matter of time, of course, before most NBA players start renaming themselves — probably one-word names like in soccer, or Rollerball.
