Pierre Thomas puts a bow on it (video)

Is it just me, or is the NFL getting too cute for its own good? (Note: It’s usually just me). On Monday night as you may have seen, the Saints’ Pierre Thomas scored a first-quarter TD, and then produced a bow, stuck it on the ball and handed it to a fan (it was his mom, reportedly).

First of all, make no mistake — it’s difficult to get the little paper backing off of the sticky square on the back of those things, especially when you’re wearing gloves. Still, I would have been more impressed if Thomas had reached into his pants and produced wrapping paper, tape and safety scissors, and done the job right.

Also keep in mind that the score only gave the Saints a 7-3 lead, and cost them a 15-yard penalty for unsportsmanlike gift giving. I don’t care if it was Boxing Day; that’s rather foolish. That was so very Terrell Owens of you, New Orleans. You don’t see Betty White pulling that crap.

I have a feeling that if they play the Packers or the 49ers in the playoffs, Saints players won’t show up with bows in their pants.
