State College police charge 45 in connection with Penn State riot

Overturned news van is seen as students protest against the firing of Penn State football coach Paterno in State College Reuters

The latest tally from the Penn State riot: the State College Police Department has charged 45 people in connection with the unrest, with eight of those charged waiving their preliminary hearings on Wednesday. Five of those people are charged with felony riot for tipping over a WTAJ news truck.

The riot was caused, of course, when the university announced that Joe Paterno had been dismissed as head coach. Two individuals were so outraged at this, in fact, that they allegedly decided to soothe their wounded sensibilities with copious amounts of small change.

Two additional students, Christopher M. Carmody and Colin Vanderhorn, both 18 and from Darien, Conn., were charged with felony riot, among other charges, for stealing a parking meter.

These pre-felons are not indicative of Penn State students or alums. They are an anomaly, an aberrant anomaly. Those students who are indicative of Penn State raised over $500,000 (and all those we know helped them) for victims of sexual abuse through RAINN. This self-less and great gesture is ongoing to help the victims of sexual abuse, including the victims of Sandusky. Congratulations to all good and decent Penn Staters who are the overwhelming majority. May these few idiots arrested and who caused such violence be prosecuted to the fullest extent allowable by law.

These Penn Staters, I believe, were actually soccer fans…

“The riot was caused, of course, when the university announced that Joe Paterno had been dismissed as head coach.”

It’s a shame these same people that participated in these riots, didn’t feel like this to get rid of Sandusky. JoePa had the chance to really change some things and he didn’t. He believed someone else was going to, and didn’t follow up. Some things you just should follow up on. Case closed.
