Boy trampled, suffers broken arm in shopper rush for Air Jordans

By now you’ve heard that chaos reigned in many locations across the country last night when the new Nike Air Jordan XI Retro Concord shoes were made available to the public. Shoppers became so unruly that some had to be pepper sprayed by cops. And in Troy, Mich., a boy was trampled by a crowd rushing for the shoes at a shopping mall Foot Locker store.

“One kid was trampled and hurt his arm, maybe even broke it at Somerset,” said Officer Andy Breidenich, public information officer for the Troy Police Department.

Marv Albert: “NOT what Jesus had in mind!”

And yes, we have shots fired! Shots fired! At Hilltop Mall in Richmond!

In Richmond, Calif., 3,000 were waiting in line when gunfire erupted. No one was hurt and a suspect was taken into police custody. In Seattle, police used pepper spray on 20 unruly shoppers. In Atlanta, four people were arrested for breaking a store’s doors down before it opened.

Oh, and there’s an Internet hoax making the rounds today over a boy who supposedly got killed during an Air Jordan shopping melee in Washington D.C. Someone put up a Facebook page, and seemingly went to a lot of trouble. That’s even sadder than the violent shoppers.

I keep my shoes pretty top of the line, but it’s crazy that people are getting trampled over these. They look like a pair of K-Swiss rejects. But, if it’s got the MJ endorsement, that clearly makes it okay to fire off a couple of warning shots.

    Come at me, bro.

Have people forgotten Jordan hasn’t done anything newsworthy in basketball since 1998? And the pictured shoe looks like it could be sold for 19.99 at your local Walmart. Hardly worth fighting over.

I was hoping that gunfire wouldn’t accompany a sneaker that will be yesterday’s news real soon. But that’s our world. Suckage.

Our world? Who exactly was at all these stores. Honestly.

Nice kicks. I’d stomp on a child to get a hold of one of those.

Air Jordans… do they make them for broken arms too? Now that would be a great shoe.

Funny, there were no crimes reported in my neighborhood that night.
