Woman, 59, nails impossible hockey shot to win $50,000 truck (video)

Brenda Hewett, 59, had never held a hockey stick in her life, but still converted a rather impossible, 114-foot hockey shot to claim a $50,000 2011 Ford F150 4×4 truck. It happened at an Akwesasne Warriors (Federal Hockey League) game in Massena, New York. The contest was a promotion put on by Frenchie’s Ford in Massena.
The shot traveled 114 feet, and had to go into a slot just barely wider than the puck. Finally, an insurance company has to pay up! That is, unless Brenda has a twin …
Daily Mail:
Scott Coupal, manager at Frenchie’s Ford Inc which gave away the truck, said she was at the game by chance after visiting the dealership that morning.
He said: “She had been in to get some service work done to her old truck, and had said ‘God, I wish I could afford a new truck mine is falling apart.’ “
As a joke, his service manager, Joe Jock, suggested she enter the competition later that evening. Once at the game, she was paraded around the ice before being the first of five fans to step up to have a go.

Great story! I agreed with the announcer- if I’d just sat down and watched that clip without knowing what it was, I’d figure she’d have no chance of getting the puck past the far blue line. Impressive- she’s already shooting better than most of the players on the Avalanche roster, for sure.
…now hopefully the insurance company won’t find a nitpick reason to screw her out of this.
