LeBron says he didn’t sleep for weeks after Heat lost in playoffs

LeBron James AP

When last we left LeBron James here on Off the Bench, a photographer was telling a story about how LeBron showed up to a one-hour photo shoot with a six-car entourage, a masseuse and a DJ. But LeBron has said that he’s trying to reverse that image this season, which he repeated on Monday on Dan LeBatard’s radio show from Miami. (Audio here). LeBron:

“You definitely didn’t want to be around me the first couple of weeks after the Finals. I kinda sheltered myself and covered myself away from everybody and it just gave me time to just sit back and think about ways I could become a better person, better man, and better basketball player. I was devastated. I’ve had a few low points in my life and that was definitely one of them.”

Whether or not he slept after losing in the Finals:

“I didn’t. (Host: For how long?) It took me about two or three weeks before I started to relax and started to move on just a little bit.”

LeBron takes a lot of heat for being a diva, and rightly so, I guess. But remember that here we have a kid who has been sheltered and pampered since the early days of high school, told he was the king of everything by every adult in his life, and never went to college. He’s basically been told that he’s the center of the universe since he was a child. As Elvis would tell you if he were still here, that’s enough to warp anyone.

I’m sure he was down because losing wasn’t supposed to be part of the equation in South Beach. It was all supposed to be one big party where they’d win every single game then go out and dance ’til dawn. It’s not that LeBron doesn’t care about winning, it’s that he wanted it to come easy without real work or any risk. Along with the narcissism, that’s the main issue people have with the guy.

Looking at how he plays in the clutch, maybe he doesn’t care about winning.

He probably thought to himself “Wow, I handpicked my own team and I still folded up like a tent when the game was on the line”

Do you think Magic, Larry Bird, Jordan, Dr. J would ever NOT want the team on their shoulders.

Oh, I get it. Since he’s been told how wonderful he is all his life, that makes it OK to act like a jerk. I guess I didn’t understand that part.

The guy’s a chronic liar. Why believe him now?

I really wish they would have cancelled the season. That would be one more year Lebron doesn’t win a championship. Hope he never does.

    Mr. Chandler –

Were you inferring that LeBron can’t change? If that’s not the case, then please explain or comment on why he won’t change?

i live in the miami metro, and have been ‘lucky’ enough to see this guy in action off the court. complete douche. tip your waitresses, jerk . maybe i just caught him on a bad day(s).

    one person’s opinion, of course.

    • skids003 - Dec 16, 2011 at 8:40 AM

I have friends in the area, and they say the same thing berbes. The “hired help” hate to see him coming, he thinks the world “owes” him, a completely entitled jerk.

Get ready for some more devastation and loss of sleep this year after the new and improvved Knicks team woops your ass!

  10. goforthanddie - Dec 14, 2011 at 6:10 PM

Can we please quit making excuses for this dildo? I don’t give a rip how he was treated in HS, he’s allegedly a mature man now, and has been long enough to grow his punk-ass up.

Better get used to it LeChoke!

  12. denverdude7 - Dec 15, 2011 at 12:42 PM

    Bron-Bron,

Why don’t you load up the short bus your on with Bosh and Wade and head on over to China? Don’t ever come back and the NBA will be so much the better for it. In case you haven’t noticed, there are a awful lot of people that won’t buy what you are selling simply because you are connected with it.

It takes a lot of guts to be a man. It takes a lot of guts to be a champion. A boy like you isn’t fit to be a champion. Here’s to hoping you miss not one, not two, not three, not four, not five, not six Finals winning shots and never get that ring you were so willing to sell your soul for and become Wade’s little play toy. What a chump !!!

  13. clerocks - Dec 15, 2011 at 2:54 PM

LeCHOKE is such a phoney douche. I wouldn’t buy any product he endorses.

Can’t believe McDonalds and Nike would still back this poser.
