Poll: Three percent of Pennsylvanians have a positive opinion of Jerry Sandusky

AP Who are the 3 percent of Pennsylvanians who approve of Jerry Sandusky? That’s the question coming out of Public Policy Polling’s latest survey in that state. Yep, that’s a puzzler. While Sandusky broke the PPP record for least popular person in any state (guess whose record he broke? See below), there’s still that nagging fear that there are actually Sandusky fans out there.
While Penn State and Paterno are still polling pretty well, Jerry Sandusky breaks the all time PPP record for the least popular person we have ever polled on. A whopping 88% of voters in the state have a negative opinion of him to only 3% with a positive one. It’s clear his NBC interview last week did little or nothing to rehabilitate his image. Former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich, seen unfavorably by 83% of voters in his state, was previously the most unpopular person PPP had ever polled on.
I can understand checking the “not sure” or “no opinion” box when it comes to Sandusky … after all, he hasn’t yet been convicted of anything, and he says he’s innocent. But to say “Yeah, I think favorably of him; he’s a righteous dude,” well, that’s just a little weird.
Joe Paterno is still holding the line among Pennsylvanians, by the way, at 51 percent favorable, 28 percent unfavorable. But PPP doesn’t say how much of a drop-off that is from his pre-scandal numbers. I’ll bet it’s massive.

Look, anytime you poll people on the Internet or otherwise (but especially The Net) you will get a number of people who will check an option for the hell of it, just to skew the results. There will also be a number of people who simply hit the wrong option by mistake. This will account for the 3%. The only people who would purposely give a favorable view of this guy are his lawyer and, well Sandusky himself.
