Charles Barkley: ‘I think the owners are just trying to crush the guys’

Just in time for Thanksgiving, a buffet of Charles Barkley quotes from his appearance on ESPN Radio Chicago today. For one thing, he believes that the owners are just out to slash and burn the players at this point. Warning: Chilling imagery of Barkley doing “hot yoga” to follow:
“Well I’m kind of mad at the owners right not to be honest with you, because I think the owners are just trying to crush the guys. The players have made so many concessions, and it’s like, is that not enough? I try to explain to a normal person, okay, so the players went from 57 [percent] to 50, and that might not sound like a lot to a normal person, but you’ve got to understand — each one of those points is worth $300 million dollars … so it’s not like they’re not sacrificing anything … and I think the owners want even more, and I think they’re just trying to beat them to death right now.”
“I don’t think there’s going to be, but that’s just my personal opinion, I don’t have any inside. But I knew it was going to be ugly, I think actually it’s become really personal. I think those owners got so upset at LeBron and Chris Bosh and guys like that that they’d rather burn down the house instead of doing any remodeling.
“Well actually I’m working really hard on my body, to be honest with you. I’ve lost about 30 pounds. My goal by the end of the year, is to probably lose 45 to 50. … So I’m just working out like a mother right now.
“Well I’ve been doing some Cross-Fit, I got involved with Cross-Fit over the summer. And I’ve been doing hot yoga. 105 [degrees] bro. It’s 105, but I like it, it helps me with my flexibility. But like I said, I still have got a long way to go. You take a glass of water out of the ocean, it’s still the ocean.”

Sir Charles spews a lot of crap, but he once in awhile he hits the nail on the head. I miss listening to his crazy raves as much as I miss the game itself.

Yep. With an average annual salary of $5.5 million, the players must be struggling!
The horror. I will pray for them at church tomorrow!

The players are a bunch of greedy people. It’s unbelievable that they want part of the owners profits. I would be fired tomorrow if I went to my boss and demanded part of his profits in his company. Question: If a team goes bankrupt like the Dodgers, will the players give any of their salary back to the team to help them get back on track or is this a case of “give me what I want” but I won’t be arround when the owners need help,

Most workers at most companies don’t share that much of the profits. That said, if both sides were not so greedy, the owners could reduce ticket prices in this terrible economy, the players could take 4 million each instead of 5, whatever. It is all about loss of perspective among very greedy people on both sides.
