This just in: a 16-year-old girl’s NFL picks were better than yours. That is, unless you went 12-for-12 this past week. Other lesser recent accomplishments by Missy Franklin: Won three gold medals at the 2011 World Championships; broke the short-course world record at the FINA Short Course World Cup in Berlin in October; won three Golden Goggle Awards — Female Race of the Year, Relay Performance of the Year and Female Athlete of the Year, on Sunday night. From NBC Universal:

In an e-mail forwarded to us by her mother DA, Franklin’s cousin Darryl explains what went down before the Golden Goggles started: “Regardless of whatever awards Missy comes away with tonight, she’s 12 for 12 in her NFL picks this week. Don’t know if anybody in the family has ever had a perfect weekend before. Easily [could] be her most impressive accomplishment of the weekend!”

Fun fact: Franklin, a native of Pasadena, Calif., has dual citizenship in the U.S. and Canada. Her parents suggested that she try out for the Canadian Olympic team because of the depth of swimming talent in the U.S., but Mindy refused, saying that wouldn’t be patriotic.
