Lou Holtz watched what went down at Penn State in the immediate aftermath of the firing of Joe Paterno, and as you might expect, he has some scolding to do. Holtz on ESPN Radio New York with Ruocco and Lundberg:

Audio here.

“I hope you do not have a test tomorrow. This is insane and ridiculous. I would also say this: How in the world does this help the situation? It’s not going to help bring Joe Paterno back. You may feel strongly about it, but your actions aren’t going to do anything else except be destructive. If going over and turning over a TV truck and injuring people and forcing the people to have pepper spray on you is going to resolve the situation – it is not going to do anything.

“I don’t like the direction this country is going where nobody is held accountable for any choices they make. I am going to do what I want to do and what makes me feel good. As Harry Truman said ‘The freedom to swing your fist ends where the other guys nose begins. Your freedom to protest ends where you start destroying other people’s properties and inconveniencing them.’ I just think it’s a bad reflection on Penn State and I just think it’s a bad way for our young people to learn how to react.”

    Good stuff from the Doctor.

The students are short-sighted; they don’t know the victims or their families, so they take the sides of the people they know and like. It’s natural for them to have that reaction, but they need to be more cerebral and less emotional and think about the reality of the situation.

Then again, being 3 years removed from college and seeing first-hand the tens of thousands of isolated and prideful students at that campus, I don’t know that I can legitimately expect better from them – there’s just too much groupthink for the student body as a whole to examine this with a critical eye.

Yeah right, Good stuff from the Dr.
Where was he the past 14 years. It’s hard to believe the Good Dr didn’t have a sniff of this guy and turned him in. A friggin TV production tech from Ohio State probably knew what time to be in the Penn State locker room for a hummer.
How many kids wee abused because of the media silence ? How long was this guy out there, 14 years, Of course the whole town knew but the Good Dr didn’t. Seriously now..
