High school gives fans the TSA treatment: makes them remove shoes in new gym

Welcome to the Los Angeles University Senior High School basketball game. Please remove your shoes, your belt, your keys, your wallet … Well actually, only your shoes. It may not seem like a big deal at first blush, but what school outside of Japan makes fans turn in their shoes at the gym entrance? Especially when they’re given no warning, so that they could bring slippers, or Uggs or whatever. From the Los Angeles Times:
The school is being “extra cautious” after the opening of its new gym, boys’ basketball Coach Steve Ackerman said.
No word yet if airport X-ray machines will be soon added to the entrance of the Uni gym.
Your mom, who put plastic coverings on the living room furniture, approves.
The big problem is that LA University High made this edict without informing the California Interscholastic Federation City Section, which is going to cause problems. Because state high school sports officials don’t like it when schools impose silly, Draconian rules. That’s their job.
At any rate, a basketball game at this school must be a joy to attend, what with hundreds of people in smelly socks packed closely together. But the good news is that if you leave early, you just may score that new pair of Rockport Tumbled Leather Classics you’ve been wanting.
