Recruit tweets doubts about Penn State, is begged to reconsider by Nittany Lion fans
Nov 9, 2011, 6:35 PM EDT
It goes without saying that the child abuse/coverup scandal at Penn State is going to hurt recruiting, but when you actually put a face on it, it hurts the Nittany Lions even more. Noah Spence is one of the best high school football players in the nation, a Bishop McDevitt High defensive end who was rated the top player at his position by Rivals.com and one of the nation’s top-20 overall prospects. On Monday he tweeted that he might be reconsidering Penn State, which is one of the finalists on his list.
So Penn State supporters organized an Occupy Noah Spence movement on Twitter, flooding him with (supportive) messages to please reconsider. Here are Spence’s first two tweets, and a couple of the replies.

@nspence94 I understand where your coming from with whats going on at PSU but still JoePA is a class act and a great program.

@nspence94 We Are Penn State, we are strong – don’t write us off man – watch the way the students and fans handle this – its extraordinary”

Thank you to everyone for your opinions and thoughts…sorry to anyone I offended with my comment.
The bottom line is that Spence is still considering Penn State, as he probably has been all along. His father, Greg Spence, confirmed this to Penn Live:
“We still have a great deal of respect for Penn State, a great deal of respect for Joe Paterno and [defensive line coach] Larry Johnson and a great deal of respect for Coach [Tom] Bradley [the Lions' defensive coordinator],” Greg Spence told PennLive.com.
“The allegations are horrendous and I was very upset to read any allegations like that, that had Penn State’s name tie to it, but we just have to sit back and let things play out.”
Penn State has 16 verbal commitments, according to Penn Live, and so far none have backed out. But like Greg Spence said, let’s see how things play out.

I don’t have a dog in this fight (other than to feel very badly for the victims) but I think this is a double whammy for penn St. 1) the obvious bad news about the assistant cvoach and his love for boys, and 2) JoePa is going to retire at the end of the season.
I predict many recruits will simply say Penn St is a great organization as they head off to other schools. At best, 18 year olds are indecisive…this won’t help their decision making process regarding Penn St. It’s going to be much easier in their minds to go somewhere else and leave the drama in Happy Valley.

Pretty sure this guy isn’t going to make a decision on where he wants to play college ball because some random twitterites urged him.
