So it’s totally fitting that Peterborough defenseman Gabriel Zakuani’s Twitter account is going crazy right now over the news that he’s come up with a weird, unfortunate name for his newborn son. That name? Trendy. Zakuani, who plays in the English Championship, claims that he may have had Twitter “in the back of my mind” when he named the child, but that’s of course not true. He totally named it after Twitter.

Zakuani says he really wanted to name the child based on his mother’s work. She’s a fashion designer.

Either way: Poor kid.

“The official reason was [his wife, Petrie] wanted something to reflect [her work]. But it was me who came up with Trendy,” Zakuani said. “People have asked if his name is because of ‘trending topics’ on Twitter. Maybe it was in the back of my mind.”

“Everyone has been giving me banter. The gaffer Darren Ferguson wouldn’t believe me,” Zakuani said of his son’s name. “He kept asking me what it really is. But Trendy definitely suits him. I’m sure it’ll grow on everybody.”

Yeah, and we’ll all love it … for about two months.

Just a little help on your research. Peterborough Play in the English Championship (11th place today). A division below the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea and United that some in the US might be familiar with. By no means the same as the Champions League which is European, not English. YNWA
