Getty Images Through the annals of sports history, there have been athletes who injured themselves in some of the most awkward and bizarre ways possible.
Tennis star Andy Murray can be added to that list as he was supposed to play in the Swiss Indoors held in Basel, Switzerland earlier this week but he had to withdraw due to injury.
The reason why Murray had to withdraw was that he suffered a nerve injury to his rear-end by sleeping on it awkwardly prior to the event:
“I practised all of Monday followed by some physical training in the evening and I felt absolutely perfect,” said Murray. “But then I woke up on Tuesday morning and I was really struggling to walk. It is something to do with the sciatic nerve and they think I did it in my sleep. Maybe I was sleeping in a bad position.
Currently, Murray is set to return for next week’s BNP Paribas Masters event in Paris, France and I’m pretty sure that he’ll be sleeping on his back from now on.
