Is Hope Solo short-changing the U.S. women’s soccer team?

Hope Solo was among 30 players called up Thursday by U.S. women’s head coach Pia Sundhage for a friendly against Sweden on Nov. 17. That means two weeks of practice beginning today … but wait. Isn’t Solo currently competing on Dancing With the Stars? She’ll bow out of one of those obligations, right?

Well, no. Assuming that Solo advances on DWTS, she’ll train with the U.S. women’s team during the day, and practice her dance moves at night. Call me old-fashioned, but shouldn’t she give her full attention to one or the other? (Solo fan throws brick). OK, then.

It won’t be the first time Solo has juggled her dancing duties with her day job.

Before Week 2 of “Dancing with the Stars,” Chmerkovskiy traveled with Solo to Portland to rehearse as she prepared for a friendly against Canada.

“To go from soccer training in the morning to rehearsals in the afternoon, it’s very, very difficult,” Solo said at the time.

That might not bode well for Solo. She is among the bottom tier of dancers remaining on the show, along with Nancy Grace and David Arquette.

In recent weeks, Solo has appeared close to her breaking point, growing frustrated with the judges and letting her competitive nature get the best of her.

“I keep trying and trying and nothing is good enough,” she said of the judges’ scrutiny during Week 5.

“I don’t think I can do this anymore.”

Fortunately, I guess, for Solo is the fact that her other team, the South Florida magicJack of the Women’s Professional Soccer league, had its franchise terminated on Thursday. The league has been at odds with magicJack owner Dan Borislow, who had filed a lawsuit against WPS to keep his team.
