Manny Pacquiao’s promoter, Bob Arum, knows a thing or two about getting a boxer into a corner and applying the pressure. That’s what the Top Rank CEO did on Wednesday during a media day workout for Pacquiao’s Nov. 12 fight against Juan Manuel Marquez. Arum, on the elusive superfight between Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather:

“That fight will never, ever happen,” Arum said. “Ever, ever happen because of Mayweather.

“When Mayweather talks about how he hates Top Rank he’s talking bulls—. What Mayweather hates is Manny’s right hand. Mayweather has no chin and Manny will knock him out. Pacquiao and Mayweather is a three or four-round fight. Period. And who knows that best? Mayweather. The one thing Mayweather has had throughout his career is he knows boxing. He understands boxing and Mayweather can not compete with Manny. It’s the right hand of Manny that is preventing that fight from happening. If Manny agreed just to jab with the right hand the fight would be made in 30 seconds.”

Pacquiao’s promoter made the comments before Pacquiao’s media day workout leading up to his Nov. 12 fight against Juan Manuel Marquez.

“Once Manny demonstrated that fearsome right hand there was no chance ever that the fight would happen,” Arum said. “None. Don’t kid yourself. I know Mayweather, everything else is bulls—.”

Arum also launched another salvo over the way Mayweather beat Victor Ortiz in September.

“Mayweather demonstrated a complete lack of sportsmanship and the public that paid for that was cheated,” Arum said. “I don’t care about the baloney about protect yourself at all times and its a legal shot. That’s not the issue. The fighter has the obligation to entertain the public and hitting this kid with two cheap shots really put a damper on boxing. For me, f— the legacy, he cheated the public.”

Meanwhile, Pacquiao’s trainer, Freddie Roach, said his fighter will probably only fight for two more years, and four or five more fights, before retiring to concentrate on his political career. Meanwhile, for Mayweather in the future, I see a lucrative career in robot boxing.

If Arum keeps up the rhetoric and maybe if a few others support his assertion, it will get to Mayweather and he will accept the fight to defend his pride. It would be a big payday for both and certainly Mayweather would like that. Manny could use this fight as the end of his fighting career in about 2 years. If he waited that long he may need to may need to have Mayweather certified by a psychiatrist as “of sound mind” by then.

If they are ever going to fight, it needs to happn soon, before Mayweather gets thrown in prison. Eventually, all his money won’t keep him out of there. He’ss do something else stupid that he thinks he can pay his way out of, and it won’t be enough.

I have to agree, both these guys have deadlines to make the fight worthwhile. Mayweather might get thrown in jail and Pacquiao is starting to age.

“southernpatriots”, I didn’t know you commented on / were a fan of, boxing! That’s awesome. I had the good fortune to cover boxing for a sports radio station in Chicago a long time ago. Spent a night at the fights with Evander Holyfield once. Did a lengthy interview with Angelo Dundee. Met Hector Camacho and many other prominent fighters over time, including some Olympians.

Geez, I wish I knew how to get ahold of you folks outside of CFT and other blog sites. We’d have some great conversations to share. Best wishes my friends. Beat ‘Bama :)
