49ers’ Francois: If Luck plays an SEC school, ‘his draft stock is going to fall’

Getty Images The Andrew Luck Admiration Society is multiplying faster than zombies on The Walking Dead, but it should be noted that not everyone is a fan. Former LSU and current San Francisco 49ers defensive tackle Ricky Jean Francois, for one, thinks that the Stanford quarterback may be (gasp!) overrated. Larry Brown Sports:
“[A Stanford-LSU title game] will never happen,” Francois said in response to a reporter’s question Tuesday. “If it happens, Luck’s draft stock will fall. If he plays an SEC team, his stock will fall. I ain’t got nothing against him. He’s a Pac-12 guy. I’m not a Pac 12 fan at all, I’m an SEC guy. But if he ever plays against an SEC school, Alabama, LSU, that draft stock is going to fall. That will be one game they just don’t show the scouts.
“He won’t. I can say that hands down. I can say that from past experience seeing Brady Quinn when he played us in the Sugar Bowl. He was a Heisman Trophy candidate and possibly the No. 1 pick. You seen that change real quick. JaMarcus (Russell) actually became the No. 1 pick and his (Quinn’s) draft stock dropped to … I can’t even remember. Andrew Luck – good quarterback. Good guy in the Pac 12. But playing against an SEC school – that won’t work too well for him.”
Just a hunch, but I’m betting that Francois wasn’t saying any of this anywhere in the vicinity of his coach, Jim Harbaugh.
Meanwhile, Colts center Robert Mathis had a rather entertaining quote on the “Suck For Luck” talk surrounding Indy’s 0-7 start:
“I have done this for 13 years … I’ll steal a Robert Mathis quote: I ain’t sucking for anybody,” Saturday said during a conference call with Nashville reporters on Wednesday. “Robert said it best, and that is the reality of it. I am out there every week trying to win games, and I don’t care about the rest of it.”
OK, then.

What utter nonsense. Stanford’s old fashioned blast-you-off-the-line offense will annihilate anything the SEC or Big 12 can put up against it. Stanford can win without Andrew Luck, but having a quarterback who can put the ball in the center of the dinner plate every time he throws it does give the Cardinal an added advantage.
What are the SEC and Big 12 but a bunch of cretins with IQs somewhere under 70? You d___ unreconstructed Confederates can go straight back to H___. Secede, PLEASE. In the meantime Stanford will not only outmuscle you Neanderthals but will outsmart you as well.

couple things…
1) I used to hate on Luck too, that was until I actually took the time to watch an entire Stanford game, the kid has got it all… hes a beast, that said tho…
2) the PAC is watered down this year, and has been the past few years, YES we have Oregon, but USC is not the old USC, UCLA I DUNNO WHAT THAT IS, Wash sucks (Sark u shoulda took that Oakland job), Cal is no good either…
3) FINAL VERDICT –
if Luck played in the SEC he wouldnt be as impressive, but still would go #1 , if he plays LSU in the title game and plays awful, he will still go #1
in this years NFL draft, if you have the #1 pick and dont take Luck , your foolish, regardless of whatever happens from here on out.

I first really learned about Luck last year. ESPN staged a preseason “contest” between Luck, Nick Foles, Matt Barkley, and Jake Locker. Each was asked to throw at the moving receiver target used in the NFL combine. Locker missed the receiver outright two-out-of-three times. Barkley and Foles managed to hit the receiver and put the ball near the bullseye. Luck hit the center of the target three times in a row. The guy’s accuracy is awesome. How any fool can think that he will drop in status if he plays against some Cajun pirogue-polers I can’t begin to guess.
Does Ricky Jean Francois have a fully-functioning brain? Too many concussions, perhaps? Where did he earn a degree, Louisiana State University Community College? Maybe he’s been munching on too many mercury-tainted crayfish down in bayou. Did his grandaddy marry his sister? Something is definitely haywire in this guy.

And how’s that working out????? What Francois should be well aware of is that teams draft on next-level ability, not one collegiate game (and that’s not saying Luck would lose to an SEC team). And by all accounts from those with opinions that matter in these cases, Luck has it.

NFL players are drafted from all over the country, and often excel depending on how well they adapt to pro systems. In general Pac 12 teams are more multifaceted, and offer closer to NFL challenges, but the larger, more aggressive linemen and defenders in the SEC do often dominate in head to head matchups. Pro scouts are paid to see through all this. Not surprising he would hold this view as every conference is ego-centric.

Francois didn’t say that Luck wouldn’t make it in the NFL – he said that if Stanford plays an SEC team in the post-season the SEC team – either LSU or Alabama – will win easily.
I don’t think Stanford will play an SEC team in the post-season but that would be an interesting game to watch.
Let’s just remember that an SEC team has won the last 5 NC games and this year’s version of the game of the century is Alabama-LSU on 11/5.
It’s no secret that the SEC doesn’t stand up to Stanford academically but we’re talking about football here.

Francois need to get his name in the media? That’s really the only logical explanation for him making comments like that. Controversial. Guaranteed to draw attention to yourself. Unfortunately the “topic” he chose showed off his ignorance. I’m an SEC guy to the core, but anyone, and mean ANYONE, who has seen Luck play, knows he would do extraordinarily well in ANY conference, including the SEC.
Would his completion percentage be as high? Maybe not. Would he throw for as many yards? Maybe not. Would Stanford be undefeated? Probably not. Would Luck’s NFL stock be lower? Not a freaking chance.
Note to Francois: shut up and play, and be careful… your stupidity is showing. “I AIN’T got nothing against him.” You’re an embarrassment to your 3rd grade English teacher.
