Will Occupy St. Louis protest disrupt the World Series?

The Occupy Wall Street movement may accomplish what few others ever have: broadcasting the World Series without the expressed written consent of Major League Baseball. Occupy St. Louis, which has been camped out in the city’s Kiener Plaza for a week, is inviting people to watch tonight’s opener on a large screen TV at the group’s camp site. Hmm … isn’t that how the Vancouver riots got started? Reuters:

“Come watch the game with the 99 percent,” the group’s Facebook posting said. “Show the world that there isn’t a need for corporate sponsors to enjoy baseball.”

“We will be projecting the game on our big screen, but without corporate sponsors. Commercials will be replaced with other Occupy groups’ livestream,” it said.

Michelle Obama and Jill Biden are said to be planning to attend the game.

Even though the Occupy St. Louis group has been small so far — about 30 protesters are camped at Kiener Plaza — rumors are circulating that something bigger could take shape by game time tonight. There are rumors of protesters pitching tents outside Busch Stadium, or even a streaker attack at the game itself. Worldwide publicity like this may be too much for the demonstrators to pass up.

But local authorities don’t seem too concerned. From the St. Louis Post-Dispatch:

Dotson said city officials also had met with members of Occupy St. Louis and had no plans to displace the protest group who for more than a week has gathered in Kiener Plaza.

“We’ve asked them to be respectful, to clean up after themselves and police the area,” Dotson said. “I think it’s common sense and what the St. Louis community expects.”

I see no way anything can go wrong.

Security and police should not allow a group of leftists who don’t quite know what they want, one wants to kick all the Zionist (which means they want to return to their homeland) Jews out of the country, but doesn’t mention getting illegal aliens out or drug gangs from central America out, or doesn’t mention getting radical Muslims out, just law abiding Jews must go. Another group wants to kill former president Bush. Another group wants to end capitalism and the free market system. What do they want? The uttery discredited and failed system of communism, of course. Let these kooks disrupt the World Series? Not if law enforcement has sense. They will not have permits to disrupt or hinder entrance to the ball park, they will not have permits to hinder the flow of traffic. They will not have permits to picket. The Occupy folks do not have permits to be a public nuisance and health hazard to all, but they do it. This is the face of progressives, this is the face of liberalism. These are a fringe element that supports the Democrat party.

What are they going to do about all the ads behind home plate and over the bleachers? Obviously they can’t block those too. Also, by watching the game, they are still supporting Capitalism by giving the World Series more viewership, and in return, more ad revenue for future World Series events.

The hypocrisy of this astonishes me. A group that claims to be against the top 1% uses the game broadcast by the money of the 1% in clear violation of their terms that are announced every game.

Actually , you are talking about letting 30 people dictate the policy of the whole country? Since you lefties always act like kids when you don’t get your way, why don’t you start your very own country or something? I know it would be hard to run it unless you get aid from some other country, because none of you would want to work, therefore you couldn’t tax anyone, but maybe you could live off foreign aid.

To be fair, St. Louis does have the classiest and most intelligent protesters in America.

Why is it when you bring up a point with these Occupy folks the so often resort to name calling. I guess they have no argument to couter with.

Someone who doesn’t know how to properly use punctuation and can’t spell “counter” shouldn’t be worried about how informed other people are. How about you learn to read and write English? Isn’t that part of what all the teabaggers go on and on about?

      • skids003 - Oct 21, 2011 at 8:46 AM

No, actually, it’s not. Most of the so called Tea Baggers want everyone to pull their own weight, not live off them like they do now.
