Stephen Colbert’s mock conservative punditry is one of the best things going on cable TV right now (I’ll admit that in the beginning, I doubted such a convoluted satirical premise would work). So it’s no surprise that in the latest ad produced by his Super Pac, Colbert comes down on the side of the NBA owners in the league labor dispute.

But first, Colbert’s reaction to the news that there may be no NBA on Christmas:

“What? The NBA on Christmas is a tradition that goes back to the birth of Christ, when the Wise Men found the babe in swaddling clothes and shot him out of a t-shirt cannon.”

Excerpt from Super PAC ad:

“It’s another sad day in America, as the NBA lockout grinds on, depriving millions of their favorite sport. Meanwhile, the NBA players will stop at nothing to get all the cheese. With unemployment at an all-time high the players are demanding more millions.

“NBA owners are job creators who send our economy soaring, like these things. And heroes like Mark Cuban are the number one employer of our nation’s tiny blimp pilots. The players have missed their shot, so call your local sports radio show and yell, ‘We want our NBA.’”

But the funniest thing may actually be the “press release” at Colbert’s Super PAC site:

“I have always enjoyed watching a few rounds of ball-in-hoop,” said Stephen Colbert, President of Colbert Super PAC and Colbert Super PAC S.H.H. “But now, greedy basketball players are threatening the livelihoods of many in the MNBA: from the job-creating team owners, to the Maori basketball net weavers, to half-time mini-trampoline slam-dunk gorillas. In these tough economic times, can we really afford to pay players what they’re worth?”

I still don’t think that anyone except for Colbert could pull that off, but he does it well. His (read: America’s) SuperPAC is one of the reasons I’m expecting to not only be annoyed, but entertained this coming election season.
