Let’s see who’s leading the LA Times poll to replace Hank Williams Jr. on MNF

Getty Images This is hardly scientific, since their post just went up a few minutes ago and there are only a handful of votes so far. But the Los Angeles Times asked readers who should replace Hank Williams Jr. to sing the Monday Night Football opening theme song, and the leader is … well first, here’s who is not leading. No votes so far: Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus.
And your leader is, with 28 percent of the vote … Bruce Springsteen. Why is this looking like the NFL deciding who will headline the Super Bowl halftime show? What, no Madonna?
Here’s the lineup the Times put together, I assume randomly: Beyonce, Bon Jovi, Bruce Springsteen, Carrie Underwood, Elton John, Eminem, Jay-Z, Katy Perry, Kid Rock, Lady Gaga, Mariah Carey, Miley Cyrus, Toby Keith, Other (write-in).
My choice: No one. MNF should go the Murphy Brown route and dispense with a theme. But if they have to have one, my second choice is John Denver.
♫ High in the Rockies, they’re playin’ some football
Bighorns and pumas are tossin’ the ball
Romo was sacked by a ravenous Grizzly
His numerous picks will be missed by us all
Woooooooo, ooooooooooo bears play for keeps
Nothing was left but the ball and some cleats. ♫
But John Denver is dead. So here’s my third choice:

No surprise. A liberal newspaper picking a liberal performer. At least the Boss might keep his politics out of our football.. That would be nice for a change.

How about just starting the damn football game at 8:30pm. Come out of the commercial break from the pregame straight to the kickoff. No bells, no whistles. Just the reason why we tune in to watch MNF. The last letter in that acronym.
