Drew Pearson rips Dirk Nowitzki, tells Romo ‘Stop making mistakes’

Getty Images Note to Dirk Nowitzki from former Cowboys great Drew Pearson, re: Tony Romo support: “Hey Dirk, this is football, it ain’t basketball.” Wow.
Pearson takes issue with Nowitzki’s recent support of Romo, in which the Dallas Maverick tweeted that Romo should hang in there and not listen to all the negative garbage people were saying about him. No, says, Pearson: you need to take more of a tough love approach. Pearson:
“Hey Dirk, this is football, this ain’t basketball. This is a real game where a lot of emotions play a lot more heavily into what you’re doing out there as a professional. I respect Dirk, there’s no question, and I know where he’s coming from because he has sustained the criticism and now the criticism has stopped because they won an NBA championship. So what he should be telling Tony is if you want to stop the criticism, quit making those kinds of mistakes and lead your team to a championship.”
Pearson made the comment on KESN-FM’s Ben & Skin Show today. More Pearson:
“I think we’ve got to continue to ride Tony, but for Terry Bradshaw and some other people to start lumping him into the class of Danny White, lighten up man. He is no Danny White. If he was Danny White, the Cowboys would’ve won some more playoff games by now in Tony’s tenure. He would’ve led us to some NFC Championship games. He would not make the same kind of mistakes, he would understand situational football, he wouldn’t throw the football in situations where it didn’t look like he had a chance, and those situations end up affecting the football team. So that’s where I see Tony Romo right now.”
While it seems a little harsh for a former Cowboy to go out of his way to rip Romo, and Nowitzki, who was only trying to help, Pearson’s comment does have an unassailable logic. Win something, and the criticism will go away. Now, because it’s old and cliched, I will not mention anything here about Drew telling people to “get off his lawn.” Instead, let’s just say that you shouldn’t touch his Rascal mobility scooter.

Rick: This is one of your better stories. Dirk offered soft, almost sloppy advice. He did not take into consideration what he did to quel the criticism–won a championship. Preston reminds Dirk of this. Preston’s advice to Tony: tough love. Quit doing what you are doing to put your team in predicaments and disadvantages. Call better plays and execute better plays. If you are leader, paid as much money as you are paid, then be a leader….lead…lead the team into the playoffs, lead your team into the Super Bowl…lead your team into a championship. We love Terry Bradshaw, after all he won 5 Super Bowl rings and he is from Louisiana! However, it is quite an exaggeration or blind faith to say that Romo is like Danny White. The only similarity we see at this time is that both were/are quarterbacks for the Dallas Cowboys, that is about where all similarities end. “Unassailable logic” is accurate, Rick. Preston offers something, that if Romo follows it, will help him take the Cowboys into a Super Bowl win. Preston knows of which he speaks. He is not comparing apples to cherry tomatoes, but apples to apples. Keep speaking the truth in love, Preston that will go farther than love without truth.

Major Cudos to Drew!
Let me begin by saying I’m a life-long Cowboys fan. I was there on day 1.
I mention this not to brag, but to say I have seen how success is suppose to work in this town, and with this team. If Tom Landry were alive and coaching today, Romo would have his ass on the bench, pure and simple.
It’s embarrassing how Jerry is on the sidelines offering a pacifier to Tony everytime he throws an interception…you alsmost expect Jerry to put Tony on his shoulder and burp him for crying out loud.
Drew’s comments were spot on…grow a pair Tony and stop throwing the freaking interceptions!!!!!
Drew knows how it’s supposed to be, and he figures no one else is gonna get on Tony’s butt, so he is just stating what somebody should be telling him. Be a freaking professional! Grow the hell up!
