In case you’re not familiar with Mississippi politics — and I can see no reason why you wouldn’t be — they’ve got something on the ballot in November called Initiative 26, or the Personhood Amendment. In short, it’s an amendment to the state constitution that would declare that life begins at the moment of fertilization, therefore making all forms of abortion, and even some forms of contraception, illegal. Crazy? Sure. But that doesn’t mean that there aren’t some big names behind the effort.

One is former Presidential candidate Mike Huckabee, who was the keynote speaker at the Yes on 26 Kickoff Banquet in Jackson, Miss., earlier this month. Also speaking at that banquet was Deanna Favre, wife of wandering hobo quarterback Brett Favre. Yep.

To repeat, Brett Favre’s wife is a major supporter of an amendment that would declare a person’s rights begin at the moment of conception. I’m not even sure how you pinpoint that: Does a tiny ref throw his hat? Are replays allowed (“He’s taking a long time under that hood …”)? How many challenges do you get?

Deanna Favre has been an activist in the best sense of that word, having founded the Deanna Favre Hope Foundation to raise money and awareness for women with breast cancer, of which she is a survivor. But that doesn’t excuse her going off the rails and visiting crazy town (my opinion), supporting an idiotic ballot amendment like this. We’ve finally figured out a way to keep Brett off of our football fields. Now can we also find a way to keep religion out of politics, and women’s bodies?

I agree with the GOP on the economy, but things like this make it impossible for me to ever vote for them.

Chandler, you are a scientific moron. There is nothing in this report that has anything to do with religion, and yet somehow you seem to think there is a connection. The reality is, that life does exist at the micro-organism level and so it does begin at conception. Have you ever heard of a single cell flagellum, or did you drop out before you made it through that grade?

Furthermore, one does not have to be “religious” to hold this set of beliefs. Your reporting really need more work and an added level of integrity. You spew your mistaken worldview all over us in the same manner you accuse Mrs. Farve of doing, only with a much less valid argument than her.

Maybe you liberals ought to take responsibility for your actions instead of blaming everyone else who has a consciousness.

that too, but I meant conscience.

This is baffling to me. One, because the idea is ridiculous, and two, I know for sure that her husband Brett is a democrat and they both donated a good amount of money to the democratic candidate in the last state elections.
