A few fun facts about Rocco Grimaldi: The 18-year-old from Michigan, via Anaheim, Calif., was drafted 33rd overall by the Florida Panthers in June. He now plays for the University of North Dakota, and was the U.S. Under-17 national team’s leading scorer in 2009-10 with 40 goals. He’s also a devout born-again Christian, who “reads the Bible daily” and has the inscription ‘1 Samuel 16:7’ on the heel of his right shoe.

Which is why it may be no surprise that Grimaldi took to Twitter recently to sermonize on the evils of scantily-clad women, who tempt men with their wanton ways. From Grimaldi’s Twitter feed:

RGrimaldi23 Rocco Grimaldi
Ladies, you can help us guys out big time. Put your boobs away and everything else that is hanging out. Guys have a hard enough time with…

that temptation without u helping it along. When did being a beautiful girl become dressing with the least amount of clothes on? When did…

what u wear become a competition? Before you dress ask, “Does this outfit honor God, does it honor my body, does it help serve/love my…

brothers? If it’s a no to any of those questions, then u shouldn’t wear that outfit #ThinkBeforeYouDress

Coincidentally, that’s the exact thing I asked myself when I got up in the morning and got dressed: “Does this outfit honor God?” (It does if God likes Captain America t-shirts). Which brings us to our next series of Grimaldi tweets:

RGrimaldi23 Rocco Grimaldi
Guys u ready? Ur up next

I’m ready.

Guys, when did sleeping with every girl u can make u a man? Anyone can lay with a woman. And don’t blame the women for how they dress…

Don’t say it’s because they want attention. Don’t blame ur “curiosity” or that u just wanted a little taste of what it would be like…

Women are not an object for playing with. Sex is a gift from God. We have made it idolatry by how we use it. We blame the women for what…

they’re wearing, we blame the media for what they’re producing, but we never blame OURSELVES for how WE’VE twisted God’s gift to only…

glorify ourselves. WE are the men and WE are to blame. God put US in charge of this earth so WE are the ones who need to man up and lay…

down our lust. Don’t fall into that temptation. If you don’t do this, you may be a boy for the rest of ur life #ManUp

Puck Daddy has an excellent analysis of Grimaldi’s Sermon on the Tweet, so you should probably check that out. I’ll say only that I find such Bible-thumping tiresome outside of a Burt Lancaster-Jean Simmons movie, and that 18-year-olds shouldn’t presume to tell anyone how to dress or behave.

As we all know, kid preachers are a cute novelty at first, but very quickly become annoying. But at least Grimaldi kept it confined to his own Twitter account. And by the way, I’ve seen a lot worse things on Twitter.

And Rihanna, I hope you were paying attention here.

Its nut jobs like this kid that start cults, and blow up buildings in “the name of god” (or turn out to be gay drug/sex addicts…. like Ted Haggard).

I’m not saying being a man whore is a good thing, or that women should dress like prostitutes… but this religious argument against such things is laughable. Thats not even getting into the fact that ALL religion is laughable, not to mention the only thing humans still cling to from the 1st century (the world was flat back then, magic was real, witches were real, sea monsters were real, and the earth was the center of the universe). I mean seriouslly, humans were really stupid when religion was invented… yet people STILL cling to it without any sort of proof that its real. You know what that is? Delusion.

Before anyone says “Its his belief, leave him alone”… Id like to point out that would be fine, if it stayed private. The second you take to twitter to make rants like this in public, its perfectly fine to call you the pysco you are.

      Put your boobs away!

    • ljl2 - Sep 29, 2011 at 10:07 PM

yes, being concerned about modesty IS in fact equal to blowing up buildings!

actually, what is dangerous is taking something way out of context in order to demonize them. way to go.

I agree, ljl2. Typical of Rick and his leftist agenda, he (they) demonize anyone that they disagree with or that disagrees with them. he can’t keep his politics out of his sports blog. I guess that’s a prerequisite for working for MSNBC.

There is a place to share “proficise” and a place not too. This is DEFINITELY not the place. His parents may be extremely religious or maybe not, he may have taken a odd turn on his own. Very doubtful though he is gay! lol

I don’t follow hockey at all, but I admire this kid for standing up for what is right. The media, in this case, a blogger, can try to drag people down for speaking out against what is wrong with the world, but I commend him for it.

As for stakex, it’s not “his belief”, it’s the teachings of the Holy Bible and last I checked, the majority of this great nation claim to follow its teachings. So, those of us who claim to be Christians, need to follow this young mans lead and start acting as we are called.

I agree. Temptation is everywhere. And it has ruined this world. Both girls and guys are at fault. It has ruined the first institution known to mankind: marriage. It’s tough being a Christian and professing it too. You get labeled as someone who is making the world a worse place. It’s admirable for someone like Rocco to be so vocal. Forces myself, and hopefully other Christians, to stick what we have always been taught. The Bible is a 60-book guideline. I, we, need to continue to follow it.

I like Rocco even more now.

  4. MommyOh - Sep 30, 2011 at 5:50 PM

Yay for Rocco! I don’t follow hockey, so had no previous idea who this kid was, but I like him already. Women who claim that they don’t understand where he’s coming from, are flat out lying. Women don’t hang it all out there in the name of comfort or fashion, it’s to get the attention of men. Respect yourself, and wear a full shirt for pete’s sake. It’s not about throwing on a potato sack, it’s about having some decency.

Proclaim, Rocco! I highly agree with what he said on Twitter. If you look at the media, everything is about SEX and MONEY. It has been mentioned in numerous movies, numerous articles, “Sex sells”. What they NEED to add is “Sex sells your soul to the devil himself.” If you look at the main reason why marriages don’t last other than just plain not getting along (which honestly, you should’ve put more thought into the sanctity of marriage before committing to someone you didn’t know that well), is infidelity. SEX RUINS RELATIONSHIPS! For someone my age (24), I completely despise TV channels like MTV that promote idiocy like Jersey Show and Teen Mom. Seriously, what is there to be proud of in partying and acting stupid? Wearing skimpy clothes and focusing on material things is NOT going to get you in God’s good graces. This might sound contradictory to what I’m saying and what the church believes, but Gays & Lesbians aren’t ruining marriage, it’s idiots who believe in everything the media and American society tells them. They’re the reason we have higher divorce rates more than ever. If everyone looked at marriage through God’s eyes, then maybe we’d have less single parents & more complete families with HAPPY husbands and wives, because they WAITED for the RIGHT person and didn’t crawl into bed with the one wearing the least clothing thus granting easier access.

This kid is an idiot, kinda sounds like a gaywad.
Maybe should get outta sports and be a priest.

    • monarke4 - Oct 1, 2011 at 3:36 AM

If you don’t like something it’s automatically gay? Believe you me he’d have his membership taken away… How would you like it if people referred to you as stupid-eddiejo? I think you need a visit from Wanda Sykes

  7. doeringmj - Oct 1, 2011 at 8:13 PM

Yes, I know it may be hard to believe that in this day and age there are men out there that actually have respect enough for women to encourage them to have respect for themselves and their own bodies. Don’t hate on Rocco just because he says the truth (he doesn’t hate “boobs” but rather the idea that many women display themselves as a sexual object rather than a person), admitting the obvious, that men are very visual and that we should help them out by actually putting on some clothes rather than dressing with as little as possible is commendable and shows he is a man of character (which is a rarity these days let me tell you).

If you all would take a little time to read the Bible, which I highly encourage you to do, you can see that though God made our bodies so precious and beautiful , he wants us to actually protect ourselves from negative attention and doesn’t want us causing others to stumble (with lustful thoughts and such or have a women be looked at just as body parts). Yes, this concept may NOT fall into the norm of what most say is “beautiful” but Rocco isn’t catering to the masses but cares more about what God thinks, and encouraging women to look in the mirror and asking, “Would GOD be down with this outfit?!” Not such a bad idea! Rocco, mad props for taking a stand and not stepping down just because most of the world says differently! Most would only have thought or believed these things, but wouldn’t have the guts to speak this truth aloud…incredible!
