It’s been a busy time on the fake injury front. For a little while this week American football took the diving spotlight from soccer, as two New York Giants players mysteriously dropped to the turf against the Rams. But not to worry, soccer fans: you’re back on top with this video. I especially enjoyed the London Telegraph headline: Brazilian referee poleaxed by thin air. Enjoy:
What amazes me most about moves like this — and the players do it, too — is that the people involved seem oblivious to the invention of video and YouTube. Does the ref think the league is going to review this and not laugh him out of the room?
If I were the commissioner, I would pay out the ref’s next paycheck in imaginary money.
