Wakeup Call: Dancing With the Stars judges tell Hope Solo to be ‘more feminine’ (video)
Sep 20, 2011, 9:00 AM EDT
It was the premiere of Dancing With the Stars on Monday night, and wasn’t Eli Manning wonderful? Such grace, such fluidity … wait, was I watching the right channel? So confusing. Since I’m obviously no good judge of what happened, let’s go to the actual judges:
Judges said Monday that Solo, a Washington native and the starting goalkeeper for the US women’s national soccer team, needs to be less about “muscling things” and a “bit more feminine” if she’s going to win the competition.
Solo danced the Viennese waltz with partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy in a two-hour episode of the show that aired Monday evening. The results of the first round will be announced in a Tuesday episode, and the “star” with the lowest scores will be sent packing.
That’s not likely to be Solo. The show’s three judges awarded her 21 points out of 30, one of the highest scores of the evening.
Even so, they commented that she needs to leave some of her athleticism off the dance floor.
“You look like you’re punching me in the face,” judge Bruno Tonioli said.
“You guys were connected like glue and that was wonderful,” Carrie Ann Inaba added a bit more politely. “Just be aware of muscling things — it’s a natural tendency for you.”
Wow, what do they say if they don’t like you? Well, if you’re Ron Artest, they give you the lowest score of the evening.
On Sunday, Washington Huskies head women’s soccer coach Lesle Gallimore used half of her weekly video address to hype Solo’s appearance on DWTS, holding up the ABC phone number and urging Husky supporters to vote for the Washington native and former UW player. The blatant huckstering begins at about the 1:05 mark below:
Yes, vote for Hope, whether she deserves it or not. Unabashed homerism, it’s the college way!

ABOUT LAST NIGHT
What you missed while being turned down at the sperm bank …
- The latest planking news: Sorry folks, but this was inevitable.
- I warned you that this would happen: Diving has spread to American football.
- The Giants’ Michael Boley scored a touchdown on a lateral Monday night, and it ended the way such plays often do — with the guy who scored throwing the ball and hitting a bystander in the face.

TODAY IN MARK TRAIL …
Um, you realize the dog can’t understand you, right?

That may be true for their type of dancing. But could it be that effeminate men are intimated by her strength? She obviously has grace, but maybe what they want is something she shouldn’t want to give? Stay true to yourself, Hope!

She should show her feminine side…………
by going nude.
