[From The 700 Level] A group of Flyers came over to Citizens Bank Park after their morning skate around to take batting practice before Monday’s Phillies-Cardinals series finale.

James van Riemsdyk, who we’ve seen play soccer with the Philadelphia Union, stole the show from his teammates this afternoon, crushing a couple of balls to the warning track before finally hitting a home run over the left field wall.

“He’s a complete player, eh?” teammate Claude Giroux said of JVR’s power. [The 700 Level]

  • Here’s Joe Morgan Doing The Chicken Dance At Oktoberfest In Cincinnati. Last week, I bemoaned the fact that I was not informed about Joe Morgan being selected to lead the World’s Largest Chicken Dance at Cincinnati’s Okotberfest celebration. Well, someone in Cincy had the good sense to videotape the Reds Hall of Famer and former ESPN baseball announcer up on stage, shaking it — with fetching lasses on both sides of him, mind you — while doing the Chicken Dance. Whatever that is. [Sportress of Blogitude]

Night gathers, and now my watch begins. It shall not end until my death. I shall take no wife, hold no lands, father no children. I shall wear no crowns and win no glory. I shall live and die at my post. I am the sword in the darkness. I am the watcher on the walls. I am the fire that burns against the cold, the light that brings the dawn, the horn that wakes the sleepers, the shield that guards the realms of men. I pledge my life and honor to the Night’s Watch, for this night and all nights to come. Contact: Rickchand@gmail.com.
