Serena Williams apologizes for U.S. Open outburst, kind of, via Twitter

Someone must have showed Serena Williams the tape of her U.S. Open singles final with Sam Stosur, and the wild rant on chair umpire Eva Asderaki contained within. Like with a drunk following a bender, there was instant regret. Williams, on Twitter this morning:

My emotions did get the best of me this past weekend when I disagreed with the umpire. It has been a long road to get back to the US Open this year, and I am thankful to have had such a great two weeks in New York.

Williams was fined $2,000 for verbally abusing Asderaki.

The above can hardly be called an apology, however. That would have been something like: “So sorry for the way I handled things at the U.S. Open on that disputed point. I would like to apologize to Eva Asderaki for some of the mean things I said. I acted like a real diva.”

But, no. That’s not going to happen.

    That’s not an apology. She needs to personally apologize to the chair ump and see how she can apologize to all those in attendance as well as all her fans. It’s not the first time and with a $2000 fine, it won’t be the last outburst/rant she has on the court. She probably needs some help to gain control over her emotions and at least not get out of control so often before the public. We wish her and her sister the best.

      We think you are right…it must have been a joke. We hear that she does this all the time, and then does not truly offer an apology to those to whom she rants, but has an explanation to justify her behavior a day or two later. This is something she does habitually and then follows it the same way habitually. If all this is true, it is very sad.

    Medtxpack: Been hanging around fast food joints huh, probably explains your bit of bovine scatology. All of the players act ugly from time to time so get over it and wait until the next outburst from some other player. Trashpack.
