Auburn fans terrorized by their own mascot eagle (video)

Here’s the Auburn Eagle doing just what God and nature intended, taking its traditional pre-game flight around Jordan–Hare Stadium with leather straps hanging from its legs. But this flight, before the Tigers’ game with Mississippi State on Saturday, would be a little different.

First the eagle decides he’d rather sit in the press box, but smacks into the glass. Dazed, he then circles and proceeds to buzz the crowd, causing many Auburn fans to shriek and cower in fear (photo, and video below).

Finally, he makes it home.

What a fine way to honor America on the day before the 9/11 anniversary, by having our national bird kill itself by smacking into a window. And so I ask you once again, Auburn: what’s wrong with a live tiger for a mascot? At the Roman Colosseum, Emporer Commodus had three of them. What are you … chicken?

We are sure that some fans were quite shocked, dismayed, and even scared but terrorized? That may well be going too far.

You did not have to give an example of an Emperor who fed Christians and others to tigers. You could have given the illustration of another football tigers who play Auburn annually in the Tiger Bowl, the LSU Tigers who do have a live Bengal Tiger.

As staff many decades ago we witnessed the student body fund the building and expanding of Mike the Tiger’s cage and habitat. Since then it has been expanded even more. I am sure LSU would invite our Auburn friends and competitors to the LSU campus and tour the tiger cage (outside rather than inside which is reserved for the days before and during the Tiger Bowl), to get some ideas for their own tiger cage/habitat.
