As we enter the first weekend of the NFL season, most of us want to know who is going to win the Super Bowl but we have the answer to one of the more burning questions, “Who is the NFL’s most handsome team?”
The Wall Street Journal decided to figure out just that as they enlisted the services of researchers at the Ursinus College in Pennsylvania to determine the NFL’s most handsome team by providing pictures of 320 NFL players along with their head coach and owner to a computer program that determines attractiveness:
To measure each subject’s attractiveness, the researchers analyzed their photograph with a computer program that measures facial symmetry, or how closely the two halves of a person’s face match up. Research suggests this is a reliable measure of how attractive a person is perceived to be. It also suggests that looks are a fair predictor of a person’s career success
So, that’s the research method and here are the rather interesting results of the study:
The most attractive sample of players, with an average facial symmetry rating of 99.47, was one of the worst teams in the league: the Buffalo Bills. Their record last season was a woeful 4-12. The least attractive team was the Kansas City Chiefs, a group that won its division last season and made it to the playoffs.
I’m not really sure what we learned from the study outside the fact that no one circles the handsome wagon like the Buffalo Bills.
