Caroline Wozniacki finally wins a major: Rory McIlroy confirms they’re a couple

Rory McIlroy buried the lead on Thursday when he announced to the Associated Press that 1.) his arm injury won’t keep him out of the European Masters next week, and 2.) and that he’s officially playing smoochy-face with the world’s top-ranked women’s tennis player, Caroline Wozniacki.

Do you realize the implications, man? A Wozniacki-McIlroy love child could rule sports for a thousand years! Also, the cold be the first couple in history to simultaneously own U.S. Open championships in different sports. Anyway, this cements the fragile alliance between Northern Ireland and Denmark and should keep Europe at peace for the time being.

[McIlroy] told reporters it would be fine to refer to her as his girlfriend, ending one of the worst kept secrets in sports. He attended her second-round match here Tuesday, and has been seen by her side for weeks.

“Why it’s going so well is that we have so much in common,” he said. “Obviously, different sports, but we’re pretty much in the same position at a young age and we can talk about things that probably a lot of 21, 22-year olds can’t talk about. It’s nice to have someone that sort of understands what you’re going through.”

She said its nice to be able to get advice from Rory, who already has won a major championship.

“I think we give each other some advice once in a while, you know, if there’s something we’re not quite sure of,” she said. “It’s just nice to get an opinion. Yeah, it’s nice.”

The Lord giveth NcIlroy-Wozniacki, and the Lord taketh away Derek Jeter-Minka Kelly. And the Lord thinketh Jim Carrey-Emma Stone is creepy.

Wozniacki advanced to the semis of the New Haven Open on Thursday by beating Christina McHale, 7-5, 6-3. China’s Li Na will play Czech Petra Cetkovska in one semi, and Wozniacki will face third-seeded Francesca Schiavone. And all four will face Hurricane Irene, probably.
