Wakeup Call: Howdy folks! Praying mantis continues his tour of MLB parks
Aug 19, 2011, 9:00 AM EDT
Remember a couple of weeks ago, when a praying mantis invaded the Marlins dugout to terrorize Logan Morrison? (This led to his demotion to the minors, I’m convinced). Obviously the mantis is on some sort of tour of Major League ballparks, because he turned up at Kauffman Stadium last night for the Royals game against the Red Sox, a fact that fascinated NESN announcers Jerry Remy and Don Orsillo.
Sorry Jacoby Ellsbury fans — NESN thinks an insect is more interesting than one of your at-bats. We’ll catch you next game.
At one point NESN even dispatched sideline reporter Heidi Watney to look up praying mantis facts, which she reported during the following half inning. So this means NESN officially has the attention span of a Little Leaguer looking at butterflies in right field.
