Equisight lets you experience riding a thoroughbred racehorse. Help!

The folks at Equisight have a crazy dream — to put helmet cams on all jockeys. I would call that an insanity defense, but whatever. Developed by students at the University of Arizona, Equisight’s jockeycam shows what it’s like riding a racehorse at full speed. Their goal is to have these cameras on every jockey in every race, making it an interactive experience for the TV viewer. I suppose one would switch views from one horse to another, which would be cool, I guess. Also confusing.

Here’s one in use during a recent workout at Del Mar aboard Blind Luck, a four-year-old thoroughbred who just won the 2011 Delaware Stakes, his third straight victory. Giddyup.

They use these camera angles in NASCAR all the time, and they’re not all that terribly interesting. Although I guess if I could switch views from one car to another, that might be fun. Anyway, wake me when they invent Patrick Willis-cam.
