Poker investigation gives us another reason to mock A-Rod

It seems like A-Rod can’t win. He sits back and tries to enjoy the Super Bowl with a little popcorn being hand-scooped into his yap by Cameron Diaz, and we mock his metrosexual tendencies. Then he goes out and plays high stakes poker while chomping cigars with Matt Damon and the boys — how much more macho can you get? — and everyone gets on his case for that. What happened to the days when pro ballplayers were supposed to play high stakes poker? Can you imagine Babe Ruth being investigated for throwing away a few grand playing Texas Hold ‘em with Douglas Fairbanks? For him that would have been a slow night. That;s what big-time players — especially Yankees — are supposed to do with their spare time. It adds to baseball’s mystique. And it also helps redistribute the wealth, from what I hear of A-Rod’s poker skills.
