Why am I not surprised that disgraced NBA ref Tim Donaghy is now a gambling consultant?

So what has Tim Donaghy been doing since his release from prison in 2009 for his part in the big NBA gambling scandal? He’s “living in a family member’s condo” in Sarasota, FL, for one thing. And he’s currently employed as a consultant giving out NBA gambling advice, according to his interview on WTSP-TV in Tampa.

From Spurs Nation:

After getting out of prison, Donaghy said he sent out hundreds of resumes with hope of obtaining a job. The only one that materialized was from Danny Berrelli, whose makes picks on his gambling website DannyBWins.com.

Donaghy underwent court-mandated treatment for his addiction to gambling after his prison term. And he told the television station he’s trying to stay straight after his release.

“It’s different (than what I was convicted for) because I’m not placing bets now,” Donaghy said. “I realize in the past that I couldn’t gamble responsibly. It’s something that caused a lot of damage in my life and the lives of my daughters. So, it’s something I’m not going to go back to.”

Donaghy had to stop giving actual picks on games after his probation officer found out about it. Now he just “advises” Berrelli.

What about the money he was supposed to get from his book, Personal Foul? He’s engaged in a legal dispute with the publisher, and so hasn’t received anything.
