Regular readers of this blog know of our love for Stubby Clapp, the Canadian-born former infielder for the Cardinals organization who spent all but 23 games of his pro career in the minors. He became somewhat of a legend for the Memphis Redbirds for his hard-nosed style, his hitting and his customary pre-game backflip. His is also the only blobblehead I know of that came with a dirty uniform.
Anyway, Clapp retired in 2007 and is now managing the Tri-City ValleyCats (Single-A New York-Penn League). It seems that he hasn’t lost much of that run-through-a-wall intensity, either, as demonstrated with this epic meltdown over a hit-by-pitch call on Monday.
Fun fact: Stubby Clapp’s wife is named Chastity. And his sons are Cooper and Cannan. And that’s your Stubby Clapp update for today.
