I don’t see what the big deal is about the seagulls at AT&T Park. We should be kind to all animals, and seagulls are simply the… what the? … BRAZEN BASTARDS!

Kill them all!

Fortunately, cooler heads have prevailed. The Giants are about to hire a team of security falcons to rid the stadium of pesky seagull freeloaders, who have been gathering in ever increasing numbers and menacing fans and players alike. It used to be that the seagulls would wait until the end of the game before swooping down and feasting on leftovers slung aside by AT&T Park fans. But lately the birds have become more daring, and more abundant. They’re not waiting until the game is over — especially when Zito is pitching — and have started diving in and pestering fans in the late innings.

Video here.

“This year we’re seeing larger numbers of the seagulls, and sometimes they’ve not been stationary,” said Giants’ senior vice-president of ballpark operations Jorge Costa. “There have been a couple of games this year when they’ve started swirling around while the game’s still going on. It’s not pleasant if they’re dropping things and they’re sitting there (with fans).”

With the help of Wingmaster Falconry Inc., which states that it works “to provide our clients with the most effective, natural, humane methods available for pest bird abatement,” the Giants are exploring their options regarding the falcons.

If all goes as planned, the gulls get to the point where they can sense when the falcons are in the area and stay away.

OK, but who’s going to break the news to Cody Ross?
