Police sketches were way off in Dodger Stadium beating case

So how could the Los Angeles Police Dept. have gotten the Bryan Stow beating case so wrong? Giovanni Ramirez, the man police said they were “confident” was one of the people involved in the attack, has been exonerated in the Dodger Stadium beating, says the Los Angeles Times. And two new suspects have been arrested, both male Hispanics, according to TMZ.

The problem? Apparently the police sketches taken from eyewitness descriptions of the March 30 attack look nothing like the people who actually did it.

As TMZ first reported … the two suspects who are currently in custody are male Hispanics … one is in his mid-20′s … we don’t know the age of the other.

We’re told the police sketches do not match the suspect in his mid-20′s and one law enforcement source tells us both sketches are off. The sketch on the left has a striking similarity to Giovanni Ramirez, the man who was named the “prime suspect” until yesterday.

Cops have exonerated Ramirez, the prime suspect for weeks. Our sources say the detectives who initially handled the case went down the wrong path, and the whole case unraveled when the Robbery Homicide unit took a fresh look at the case.

There are conflicting reports as to how this new development came about. According to TMZ, LA Robbery Homicide took a fresh look at the case because things didn’t add up. But the Associated Press, via Huffington Post, reports that Ramirez’s lawyer did the digging.

One of Ramirez’s attorneys, Jose Romero, suggested the defense team unearthed important evidence in the case.

“The police played hide and seek so we did our own digging,” Romero said. “This is our golden nugget. He’s been innocent from the beginning.”

Stow underwent emergency surgery on Monday to drain excess brain fluid, said the San Francisco Chronicle. His condition had been recently upgraded from critical to serious.

How could the LA police have gotten it so wrong? I guess they aren’t as smart as you, Rick. They have to rely on witnesses, while you and the media rely on hindsight.

I guess I also called a press conference and claimed “Mission Accomplished” when the only real evidence I had was a police sketch. Now the next question is, why are you posting under “skids003″, Chief Beck?
